About Us
Haugen Law Firm PLLP began as a sole proprietorship that was established in 1966 by Orrin Haugen, and grew over the years as a firm focused in the practice area of intellectual property. Currently, the firm consists of three attorneys, as well as an experienced staff of legal professionals. The people of Haugen Law Firm PLLP are passionate, driven, and excited to provide top quality service to their clients, and to fulfill their clients’ goals and expectations in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Attorneys
ERIC O. HAUGEN
Mr. Haugen is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Hamline University School of Law. Eric has practiced law for over 25 years, and focuses his work in trademarks, copyrights and intellectual property litigation. Eric is a member of the American Bar, Minnesota State Bar, and Hennepin County Bar Associations, as well as the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association.

MARK J. BURNS
Mr. Burns is a graduate of the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Burns received his Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law, and has been involved in patent practice in both corporate and private practice settings. Prior to receiving his law degree, Mr. Burns gained technical experience as an engineer at 3M Company.

Mr. Burns represents clients involved in a wide array of technologies. Example fields in which Mr. Burns has significant patent experience include thermal management materials and devices, touch screen assemblies, analytical instrumentation, anti-corrosion materials and applications, computer software, database management systems, electrical control systems, and medical devices. Mr. Burns’ practice also involves intellectual property portfolio management activities, including freedom-to-operate studies, acquisitions, litigation, joint development agreements, and licensing.

PAUL DIETZ
Mr. Dietz is a graduate of St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Mathematics. Paul is a registered patent attorney and has practiced law for over 25 years. His experiences include preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a wide array of technologies; preparation and negotiation of contracts; trademark registration, opposition and cancellations; copyright matters; and validity/invalidity, patentability, and infringement/non-infringement analysis.
